A before and after image is simply two images placed side by side to show the difference between them. Generally, one image shows the original state of an object or person (before), while the other shows how they appear after editing or retouching (after).

2) What are some common things people want to change in their photos?

Common changes people look for include skin retouching, body contouring, color correction, removing distracting objects from backgrounds, changing background colors or lighting conditions – the possibilities are endless.

3) Can you create before and afters using presets or filters?

Yes! Presets are essentially pre-determined settings that can be applied to your images for quick edits. Filters function similarly but usually produce more dramatic results.

4) How do professionals make detailed adjustments in Photoshop?

We use various tools such as brushes, masks & layers. We also rely on our knowledge of different adjustment tools such as curves & levels to masterfully balance exposure values without introducing unappealing artifacts into our workflow.

5) Is it easy to overdo things when editing photos?

It is extremely easy to go overboard when making adjustments – in fact most newbies fall into this trap! Often times beginner editors think excessive clarity, overblown highlights & contrast can ‘improve’ an image, but in reality it creates an artificial-looking result that doesn't capture the natural essence of the inhabitants.

6) How do you strike a balance between realistic and artistic edits?

This is a fine line to walk and requires attention to great detail. While making edits you should always reference back to the original version of your photo in order to remain true to what was originally there.

7) What is one mistake people make when creating before and after images?

The most common mistake made is presenting an unrealistic transformation. Despite wanting outstanding results for our clients it is important not lose sight of what you yourself perceive as realistic for each particular photo.
